As part of the park's launch, some of the world's finest sponsored riders will be showing off their skills. There will be a rider-judged Expression Session where all budding boarders and buggiers can compete against each other in four categories and be the first to ride this landmark attraction. In addition there will be free beginners lessons, demonstrations of the latest equipment and advice from the sports biggest names.

Dominic Moore from Skyhooked, creators of the Skypark, said: "We’re very excited about the opening of the Skypark. With competitors coming from all over the world to ride it, we believe that it will lead the way for the future of these sports in Britain." Using large traction-kites, riders power themselves across the ground on wheeled boards (mountainboards) and tricycle wheel-plan buggies and use the enormous power of their kites to launch themselves skywards. The Skypark features specially designed ramps, berms and banks for riders to launch from, and with many of the worlds finest Kite Boarders and Buggiers attending the opening, visitors will see these incredible new activities at their very best.

The brainchild of Dominic Moore and Vicki Collins of Skyhooked Power Kite School, the park offers expert management and qualified tuition and promises to offer exceptional value and fun to all, from beginners taking their first powerkite lessons to more experienced riders developing their freestyle technique. Peter Shaw, Events Director for X-Zone Flying, organisers of the world’s biggest power kite event said: "It’s amazing that Skyhooked and Monkey Tree Holiday Park have had the vision to establish the world’s first permanent centre for these pioneering new sports. It’s a huge coup for the sport and we wish them every success."

The Skypark opening heralds yet another first for Cornwall in the world of action sports. Already known as the UK home of alternative and extreme sports, this event represents a world first for the area. With a round of the hugely successful National Powerkite Freestyle Series scheduled for later in 2005, Newquay looks set to play an ever greater part in the future of these new sports. |
