It was a massive event attended by thousands of people from Cornwall. Africa Calling attracted the cream of African singers and dancers. The show was hosted by Peter Gabriel at St Austell's Eden Project.

Peter has championed world music for the past 25 years, and is the co-founder of the world music body Womad. He was joined by Johnny Kalsi of the Dhol Foundation.

Africa Calling took place at the same time as the main concert in London's Hyde Park and featured a host of African acts including the Senegalese artist Youssou N'Dour - who had the hit '7 Seconds' in 1994 with Neneh Cherry. He also performed at Hyde Park.
