This year the Dehewelans ("Homecoming") festival was held on the Barrowfields at Newquay. Beginning on the 28th April and ending on 3rd May crowds gathered each day for a variety of celebrations, tours and events.

Heather Dale as Lady of the Flowers

On the second day of the Festival the Pentorr Youth Band played prior to a performance of Hotel - a play based on the riots which took place at the well known Cornish landmark The Headland Hotel. Concerts in the evening were arranged for the delegates and local people.

A Jazz and Rock Night was organised for 30th April and a Brass Band Bonanza for the following evening. Music was an important theme of the whole Festival which also included a performance by Canadian Heather Dale (see her page on this site) who also acted as Lady of the Flowers in the Gorsedd proclamation.

Bards gathered on the Sunday afternoon for the ceremony led by Grand Bard Rod Lyon (see Rod's teach-yourself-Cornish lessons on this site too). The blues robes fluttered against the sea and the sky in this spectacular clifftop location.

Another celebration is already being planned in Cornwall for 2008.
