+ Paul Hoggard was born in East Yorkshire.

Hoggard has travelled extensively making sand sculptures in various parts of the world.

+ Hoggard works with schools, teaching children the art of sandsculpting.

Paul Hoggard was born in East Yorkshire. After finishing his education at 16, he began working in the steel and construction industries, where he would take off hitch-hiking whenever he could.

After travelling extensively through Europe, he continued on to India. It was here where he made his first sand sculpture of Bob Marley on Baga Beach. This art form has since become an important part of his life.

Having settled in St.Ives, with his young family Hoggard has built sculptures on a commission basis for Art Galleries, Royal and County Shows and Local Area Authorities.

In June 2000 Hoggard was commissioned by the Royal Cornwall Show to create a farm related sculpture which was presented to the Queen of England.

Hoggard first started teaching the art of sand sculpting in 1995, in response to so many people - especially children - asking if he gave lessons.

On certain days throughout the summer months, he can be found making sand sculptures on the local beaches and running the 'Children’s Sand Sculpture
Workshop' which was set up as a way to pass on the skills and secrets of the Sandsculptor, and has proved a great success.

What really surprised me was the natural aptitude most children have for Sculpture.

Hoggard says: "What really surprises me is the natural aptitude most children have for sculpture. I find that as long as you give them the basics in how to compact the sand properly and give them positive feedback on their work progress, they can create some very good results."

He has travelled to many beaches, all over the country with the Sand Sculpture Workshop, mainly working for Schools, Education Authorities and Festivals. He feels that the best days have been spent sculpting on beaches with children.

Hoggard's work has been shown on several television programmes around the world, the latest being the F.A. Cup promotion, currently showing on the Sky network.

In November 2001, Paul was invited to build and exhibit a 12m long 'Dragon' as part of the Hong Kong Sand Sculpture Festival, which had over 40 local Hong Kong teams and four international teams. A variety of his work has appeared in several of the national newspapers, and in various magazine articles.
