Question from Shanine Salmon: When did you both start comedy?
The Office Martin: I never had a proper start in comedy. I'm just an actor who does whatever he's told. In the last couple of years I've done more comedy but that wasn't the original plan. I don't have a background in comedy.
The Office Mackenzie: I have a particular background in comedy. I've done the stand-up circuit for the last 7/8 years.
Question from Question from Dave Jennings: Have you ever worked in an office?
The Office Martin: No! vvvv
The Office Mackenzie: I've worked in a couple of offices, a couple of kitchens, load of rubbish jobs while I was waiting for 'The Office' to come along.
Question from KC: Is there any other comedians that you would especially like to do a show with?
The Office Mackenzie: After working Ricky Jervais, everyone else pales comparison.
The Office Martin: After working with Ricky Jervais, anyone will do!
Question from Chris Tayler: Are you the same mackenzie crook from the 110cs?
The Office Mackenzie: Yeah, I'm the same Mackenzie Crook from the Eleven O'Clock Show.
Question from Charles Marche: Just watched your amazing television programme! It is
absolutely a brand new type of comedy. Well done. Where was the idea first thought of?
The Office Martin: As far as I now, the idea came from Ricky and his writing partner,
Stephen Merchant who had a character called 'CD Boss' based on a generic boss who most
people have worked for, who doesn't quite realise that he isn't frightening and nasty, but he's really inept and a w*****. They did the first pilot of 'The Office' on a very small budget about two or three years ago. It's a collector's item. Look out for it at car boot sales. But it was totally their idea.
Question from Armin Fell: Hi there - who did you base your characters on?
The Office Mackenzie: I think my character was originally written with Stephen Merchant, one of the writers in mind, for the part. Stephen has done some stand-up as this pedantic jobs-worth kind of character. I got a lot of help from Stephen.
The Office Martin: I based mine partly on my brother who is also called Tim. He's ten years older than me. He's quite dry and sardonic in the same way as my character in the office. He's the type of person who looks and observes rather than joining in. But he will come up with the odd witty aside. So I partly had him in mind.
Question from Jo Walker : Is this a real office documentary?
The Office Mackenzie: The answer is, Yes. Myself and Martin are real paper merchants in Slough.
Question from Sally T: Martin, how come you are popping up all the time on my tv at the moment? (I am not complaining)
The Office Martin: Just fluke. I'm not going to be on your telly after this for ages until maybe next year. It just happens to be a run of my stuff on telly at the moment. All this stuff was filmed a while ago. The stuff I'm working on at the moment, won't be on telly for a while. But, thank you!
Question from chris cardiff: Hi, love the prog, been seeing both around on a few progs now.any plans for anymore comedy?
The Office Mackenzie: I'm still doing bits of stand-up as my teacher character Mr Bagshaw in and around London.
The Office Martin: I've just made a comedy film that will probably be out next Easter. I'm in the Ali G film.
Question from catherine farrar: Do you ever laugh at the scripts while your reading them over?
The Office Martin: All the time, out loud. They are some of the best scripts I've ever read.
