Question from Richard: Hi Rula, I bet you get asked this all the time but I believe your
birth name was Roza-Marie Leopoldnya Lubienska, so how did the name Rula Lenska come
about?
Rula_Lenska: Roza in Polish means a rose. My father used to call me "Golden Ball" because
I had reddish curls. Lenska is just a shortened version of my surname, as when I went to drama
school they told me my surname was way too long to have a career with that long a surname! I
wanted to keep the foreign flavour but make it pronounceable and different.
Question from Jenny: Is it true you are a genuine Polish Countess? If so do you get any
special 'Countess' privileges in Poland?
Rula_Lenska: It is true. All the estates were lost in the war though. I inherited the
title as the first born but I don't get any privileges at all.
Question from Jamie: How did you become interested in acting? What was your first acting
job?
Rula_Lenska: It was always a dream, from since I can remember. My first acting job was a
thriller, which started life in Windsor, and I was with it for a year. I played a murderess au
pair!
Question from Jay: Hi Rula. I have just seen you on The Morning Show and may I say that
you get even more beautiful with age.
Rula_Lenska: Oh how lovely. I would love to be on TV more. Over the past six years it's
been mostly theatre. There doesn't seem to be many good parts for middle aged women
really.
Question from Kimberly: Did you enjoy your recent role in EastEnders? Any
chance of you reappearing in Walford? You would make a great land lady of the Queen Vic.
Rula_Lenska: I had a wonderful time filming it, being with Barbara and Mike Reid was
great fun. I would love to be back in it, but I can't somehow see me in Albert Square, although
I agree I'd make a fantastic landlady! Who knows!
Question from VenusXL: Were you really in the 1976 classic B Movie Queen Kong?
Rula_Lenska: Yes I was. I thought that that film had died its death. It was embargoed for
life. I now hear that it has surfaced as a cult film in Japan of all places. My character's name
was Luce Habit!
Question from Hilary: Do you know there is a web site dedicated to Persian blue cat named
after yourself.....Rula Lenska? Are you a fan of animals yourself?
Rula_Lenska: I am a huge fan of animals, but I didn't know about that website and I'm
honoured. I don't have any animals at the moment as I travel too much, so it doesn't seem fair.
I'm constantly tempted though!
Question from Neil Evans: Who is your fav actor out of all the actors that are out
today?
Rula_Lenska: Alan Rickman, Tom Hanks - it's so broad, but that is two that I can think of
off the top of my head.
Question from Marcus: Rula you were amazing in Rock Follies, did you enjoy making the
series?
Rula_Lenska: I absolutely adored it. It was a long time ago. I hear on the grapevine that
they're planning a remake - names mentioned are Posh and Becks and Billie Piper ... but I think
I'll do my utmost to get in there somewhere. It did recently come out on DVD as well, but they
never reshowed it on terrestrial TV.
Question from Superstarkj: Do you play the guitar?!!!!
Rula_Lenska: No, I wish I did. I play a little bit of piano. It's not too late
though!
Question from Gillian: Your singing was great in the Rock Follies, what was it like when
the album reaches number 1 in the charts?
Rula_Lenska: Probably one of the most exciting days of my life.
Question from Rupert: I remember seeing you as an evil nun in Robin of Sherwood - was
that good fun to play?
Rula_Lenska: It was wonderful. My daughter was very young and I had to do this, evoking
the devil. She used to come out with me and I remember walking into her playroom and I heard her
chanting this satanic ritual that I'd done! Very scary.
