Ask Hazel O'Conner transcript
This event took place Monday 18th June 2001
Hazel O'Conner
Hazel O'Connor took a break from her Beyond the Breaking Glass tour, for an online chat.

Question from Dan: Can you tell me about Beyond Breaking Glass show?

Hazel_Oconnor: I wanted to set the record straight and simplify my life so I can easily travel. That's why I did the show because it's just myself and an Irish harp player.

Question from Guy_Rudland: Your BBG is a very moving experience, are there plans to release it on DVD/Video?

Hazel_Oconnor: Cool! Yes, there's a film that's finished but before it's released the six-part TV show will be happening before. We aim to have the six-parter finished within 2 months. The film is already finished.

Question from Lea: Who or what made you want to become a punk?

Hazel_Oconnor: Probably when I saw the *** Pistols at Brunel University and my brothers band The Flies supporting The Buzzcocks.

Question from Lizzie: What has been the highlight of your career?

Hazel_Oconnor: I think the highlight was when I got the film acting award from Variety Club and got to meet Rowan Atkinson in the flesh and I told him I loved him!

Question from Lindsay Kent: Many teenagers haven't heard of you, do you wish to promote yourself among the younger generation?

Hazel_Oconnor: Sure. I'm not a big promotional person an y more. I just feel happy to do my show and do the stuff that I do. If people pick up on me from it that's great.

Question from Reading_Dan: Will you be playing any festivals in the summer?

Hazel_Oconnor: Unfortunately not in England because of the foot and mouth disease thing. The only festivals I'm doing are in Germany.

Question from Viki_Csordas: Hazel, You've tried so many music styles, what are your plans for the future?

Hazel_Oconnor: Continuing always working in a semi-acoustic way is one prong and the other one is doing work on a dance album which is kind of a trance, Ibiza, drum n bass sort of album with a drum n bass producer. It's fun because I don't have to do it for anyone in particular I can do it the way my instincts tell me which I'd rather.

Question from Guy_Rudland: Have you or Toyah any vague plans to perform live together? I see how your music has matured as has Toyah's you would compliment one another?

Hazel_Oconnor: We always have vague plans Toyah and I because we're both Taurians. It's always possible because I like Toyah and I never disregard collaborations with people that I like.
