Ask Arabella Weir transcript
This event took place Monday 22nd October, 2001
Arabella Weir
Holiday reporter Arabella Weir, joined us for a Live Chat and answered your questions about gurning and her schoolgirl crushes ...

Question from Simon Robson: "Does my bum look big in this?" Does it really annoy you when people ask that?

Arabella Weir: No, it doesn't really annoy me. I'm always pleased that people recognise the character. I'll never be ashamed of my bum!

Question from Hothunk Nick: How did you feel being in front of Anne Robinson on The Weakest Link?

Arabella Weir: I wasn't scared of Anne Robinson at all because it's obviously all an act. I wasn't the weakest link because some of my stupid friends like Rowland Rivron were on so I knew I would be fine. It must be an act because it's all so pantomimic!

Question from Clare Storry: Does your face hurt after the gurning?

Arabella Weir: Yes it did! The man off the Bonjela ad won. He can make his lips disappear into his nose!

Question from Gideon: Where’s your favourite place in the whole world?

Arabella Weir: Italy or the Middle East. I was brought up in the Middle East and I loved the desert and I learnt to ride horses bareback in the desert and there was an amazing sense of freedom. I used to walk about with no shoes on, it was great. Since I've been an adult, Italy has almost been my second home. Everyone is very laid back and the whole emphasis on food and family is great.

Question from Johnny Marr: Who would you say is the best comic you have worked with?

Arabella Weir: Paul Whitehouse and Simon Day. Paul Whitehouse is so unbelievably creative and talented and he has such self deprecation, he's not impenetrable like some actors and comics. You can take the mick or say you're not sure about a character and he'll take it on. Simon Day is bellyachingly hilarious but he's lazy so you haven't really heard of him much!

Question from Francesca Inglis: What is the one essential travel item you cannot live without when you are away?

Arabella Weir: I don't think I've got one. Probably a sarong because it's multi-functional and can cover a multitude of sins.

Question from Audrey: Which popstar did you fancy when you were growing up?

Arabella Weir: My first big love was Davey Jones from the Monkees, then David Cassidy. But my first big full on major love was David Essex who I saw in the first ever production of Godspell and I got him to sign my jeans. He remembered doing that when I met him recently.

Question from Darren: How long did it take you to write your book, and is there another one on its way?

Arabella Weir: It takes me about a year and I know that because I've been pregnant for the last two books I've written. 'Stupid Cupid' is the new book which is out in about March next year.

Question from Alastair Peacock: Did you go to the Bolton v Man Utd game on Saturday? Please help me settle a bet.

Arabella Weir: No, I was nowhere near Bolton, there is absolutely no chance you will ever see me at a football match, unless George Clooney is playing of course!

Question from Jenny Dean: What have you got planned for the future?

Arabella Weir: I've just had a series commissioned by the BBC which is a spoof cookery show presented by me in an amalgum of well known TV cooks and my gay husband to be played by Richard E Grant! It will look like a proper cookery show so the audience thinks he's gay but he keeps going on about his wife. I will be writing the screenplay for my new book too.
