Question from CiCi Shambles: Have you at least had decent kissers?
Amanda Ryan: Yeah sure. Yes, they were ok. The girl I'm snogging in this series is a friend of mine. We trained together at drama school so we're friends from way back.
Question from Noodle: What sort of 'research' did you do to learn about your character - especially in the 1st series when the story was more 'noo meejia' based?
Amanda Ryan: Before we started filming, all of us were given the opportunity to go into internet companies. I can't say that I understand fully how an internet company runs, I really don't. It still amazes me that money comes back. It was a very different atmosphere in the office, more relaxed. In the first series, Brandon was gadget man. I watched people do that! It was the truth! Otherwise, that was it. I just accepted that this is what Soph does as a job. She's a creative person who's inspired and excited by being bold with her writing which I can understand.
Question from Wendy Nolan: How long have you wanted to be an actress for and was it hard getting into it?
Amanda Ryan: I decided when I was 16 that it was what I wanted to do. I joined the Young Vic Youth Theatre which I don't think exists any more. I had a part time job to support me being there. I auditioned for drama college and didn't get in first time, so the next year I auditioned again and got into RADA. I trained for three years and had an absolute ball. I was lucky to get a good agent when I came out and things have been going well ever since. It can be a glorious life if things are working well and I'm fortunate that it has been. It is hard too, you have to have total faith that it is what you want to do.
Question from John Smith: Have you acted in anything else apart from Attachments? If so, what?
Amanda Ryan: Do you require my CV now? I have done stuff other than Attachments. I've been acting for six years. I've done basic TV - I did a Kavanagh, The Bill, David Copperfield. I've done several British films such as Elizabeth. I've been fairly constantly working and had very diverse parts so that's good. I do play minxes a lot though!
Question from Terry Smith: Was the drug use in the first series just to create publicity seeing as there isn't much, if any, drug use in the second series?
Amanda Ryan: I've no idea. I don't know whether it was a deliberate choice. I would have no idea about that. Actually, wait and see!
Question from Cheryl: As Soph you play a lesbian. Which lady would you like to snog the most?
Amanda Ryan: Cheryl - I'll have to come back to that - I'll have a think about it.
Question from Ben H: Do you think there's too much explicit sex portrayed in the show?
Amanda Ryan: Personally no I don't. Every time there's been sex in the show, it's relevant to where the character is in their life, such as Brandon losing his virginity in tonight's episode, how long have we waited for that? I found that incredibly human and moving. When Soph is having sexual contact, it's in context. You can see the damage of it being that way so I think it's important. It reflects what's happening with that character.
Question from Gem: Soph comes up with some great lines, have you any faves?
Amanda Ryan: I can't think of any of mine. One of Jake's good ones is when Soph comes back from the toilet and she's irritated. He says "What's up with you Soph, you look like you've just seen a penis". It really summed up the moment!
Question from Cheryl Rickman: Do you think you'll always act, or have you ever thought about writing or getting behind the camera?
Amanda Ryan: I'm not sure whether I'd always act but I'm not an actor who has aspirations to write or direct. I enjoy my position as an actor. As a director, you have to know the answer to everything and I don't think I'd like to take on that responsibility. I've never tried writing and don't believe I have any talent for it - it's never crossed my mind.
