Imagine
Imagine, presented by Alan Yentob, is BBC ONE's flagship arts strand.
The brief for Imagine is simple. To be bold. To address a diverse range of arts and popular cultural subjects with intelligence and flair. We aim to be inclusive but we hope to inspire and surprise too.
The Imagine strand airs twice a year with a series of single 40 minute films in spring and autumn - and whilst we're interested in topical subjects we don't slavishly follow diary events. What we're really looking for is ambition, originality and narrative.

Songs of Praise
Songs of Praise was first broadcast from the Tabernacle in Cardiff on 1st October 1961. Since then Songs of Praise has visited all five continents of the world and can rightfully lay claim to being the world's largest Karaoke. The programme gives viewers in the United Kingdom and around the world the opportunity of singing along to classic hymns and sacred songs while at the same time celebrating our common Christian heritage and a Christian faith that continues to inspire millions today.
Throughout its 40 year history Songs of Praise has evolved and responded to a changing audience and a changing inspirational music scene. While keeping community hymn singing at its heart - Songs of Praise has embraced more mainstream music and included more solo and group performances. It introduced interviews to the programme in the 1970's and is constantly looking for new opportunities. The programme is also keen to champion community hymn singing launching annual events like 'The Big Sing' and a Schools Choir competition which brings traditional classics to a younger audience.
These days Songs of Praise is just at home in the Royal Albert Hall and Football stadiums as it is in Cathedrals and Churches. The venue may change but what remains constant is the rich variety of inspirational music, music that touches both the heart and the Soul but most importantly music that you can call your own and sing-along to.
Songs of Praise is ever changing and refreshing its appearance and content while holding on to its essential purpose as a life affirming musical celebration of Christian experience. The style and editorial can be immensely varied. We have very high production values in terms of music, lighting and directing skills and pride ourselves on the quality of our finished programmes. We usually only use the top musicians in the country and often feature the very best star talent. But we also like to hear and see the people sing so we often use real people in our programmes as well to provide a large chorus sound. We like our independent productions to have music at the core but also introduce us to new talent, stories, visual and musical ideas, so we allow a degree of experimentation and risk taking but obviously we need complete confidence in quality and delivery.
Since our 'church' is very broad then any aspect of it is in the frame and all kinds of cross-over inspirational music becomes possible as well as editorial content that reflects stories of forgiveness, overcoming suffering, love, hope and new life. Single story programmes can be powerful but a surefooted themed or place based programme could also be welcome.
