BBC Northern Ireland commissions television programmes from an in house production base in Belfast and producers from the Independent Sector.
Commissioning rounds happen twice a year – in the Spring and Autumn – at which time we develop and shortlist programme proposals in the Entertainment and Factual genres.
We produce guidelines for suppliers which outline the slots available, the kind of programmes being looked for and guide prices. BBC in-house and independent producers can find more information on the current commissioning opportunities by looking at the latest commissioning briefs.
Members of the public wishing to submit ideas to the BBC for consideration should visit our dedicated site for guidance.
Roles
Ailsa Orr, Head of Programmes, is responsible for programme commissioning and scheduling.
Fergus Keeling, Commissioning Editor Broadcasting, is the television commissioner for Independent producers.
Mark Taylor, Business Manager, is responsible for the allocation of the broadcast budget, compliance issues and programme delivery.
