Radio Scotland is the only station
broadcasting to the whole of Scotland. More than a million people
tune into the station every week, primarily for news and sport.
Radio Scotland's target audience is 35+. Our audience is mostly ABC1s
although our ambition is to extend that demographic to a greater number
of C1/2s.
We attract more men than women, mainly due to football coverage, although
women listen to us for longer. Our listeners expect us to provide
intelligent, interesting and relevant content in all our speech and
music programmes. Listeners will remain loyal if we offer engaging,
compelling radio through excellent story telling.
The most important thing we can deliver to the audience is engagement;
interesting and relevant content; humour and genuine companionship.
Radio is the most intimate of all media. We must continue to understand
our audience and ensure that Radio Scotland is the first switch on
for as many people in Scotland as possible.
Programmes are commissioned to fill specific slots. Most of our slots
are filled with fixed strand programmes which broadcast throughout
the year. We hold commissioning rounds to fill the eight weekly slots
which are given over to various feature genres, entertainment and
comedy.
The document below illustrates the slots we commission programmes
for and how they fit into the Radio Scotland weekly schedule:
