New Compliance Policy

The master tape you supply for transmission:

  • Must be Digital Betacam - no other formats can be accepted for BBC Scotland opt-out transmissions.
  • Must be accompanied by a recording report.
  • Must be editorially and technically compliant before delivery. See our Technical Specification here.
  • Must be accompanied by a Digibeta Safety Copy.

Presentation will not undertake any postproduction operation such as tape duplexing, dubbing onto alternative tape format, multisourcing, audio mixing or caption supering during the transmission process.

  • One DVD is required for every recorded programme, copied off the final transmission tape - these should not have a timecode. The cost of the DVD should be included in programme budgets. The DVD must be delivered to BBC Media Management Scotland, Zone 1.02, Pacific Quay, Glasgow along with the Transmission Tape.
  • If the programme is to be subtitled, a timecoded VHS tape should be sent to Subtitling, Red Bee Media, 100 Brand Street, Glasgow, G51 1DG, along with other material such as scripts.

Please note that:

  • All programmes transmit off server, therefore it is imperative that the clock shows the correct programme version, and that the DVD is an exact clone of the master tape.
  • The complete transmission reviewed Transmission Tape should be delivered to BBC Media Management Scotland, Zone 1.02, Pacific Quay, Glasgow except out-of-hours, as noted under Day of Transmission Delivery, when they must be delivered to CMTx or played out by the Production Team.

By when must tapes be delivered?

The due date and time for tapes depends on their Topicality Status.

Type of programme When required Where to deliver
Non-topical Programmes By 1700 on the agreed Delivery Date at least 10 days before transmission. BBC Media Management Scotland, Zone 1.02, Pacific Quay, Glasgow
Week topical Programmes By 1700 on the agreed Delivery Date which is 5 days before transmission. BBC Media Management Scotland, Zone 1.02, Pacific Quay, Glasgow
Late Commissions At the agreed Delivery Date and communicated Delivery Time. BBC Media Management Scotland, Zone 1.02, Pacific Quay, Glasgow
Day Before Topical Programmes At the agreed Delivery Date and communicated Delivery Time which is 24 hours before transmission. BBC Media Management Scotland, Zone 1.02, Pacific Quay, Glasgow
On Day Topical Programmes At the agreed Delivery Date and communicated Delivery Time which is calculated as:
(2 x Programme Duration + 30 minutes) before on-air time.
E.g. a 30-minute programme would have to deliver 90 minutes before TX while a 60-minute programme would have to deliver 150 minutes before TX.
BBC Media Management Scotland, Zone 1.02, Pacific Quay, Glasgow during opening hours, otherwise to CMTx.

Where the programme cannot be delivered by the deadline opposite the tapes will not be accepted in CMTx and programmes will be regarded as live broadcasts. In these circumstances, the Production Team must have available (at their expense) a suitable facility to play-out the tape for transmission.
