Dawn French as Geraldine

Christmas Special 2004

It's been 10 years since Geraldine became the first female vicar of Dibley and everyone is determined to celebrate her anniversary. However, as usual, nothing goes quite as planned.

Christmas is often an eventful time in Dibley. One year, Geraldine was obliged to eat four whole Christmas dinners when she found herself unable to turn down invitations from her parishoners.

On another occasion, the Nativity play took a rather realistic turn when the villagers decided to cast real cows and sheep - and a heavily pregnant Alice as Mary.

This year, Alice gets "the wrong end of a very, very long stick" when she spots a supermodel in her undies at Geraldine's house. Inevitably, it's not long before the whole village believes that their vicar is gay!

Dawn French, who plays Geraldine, says of her character "Geraldine is getting older... and wider... and wonders whether she's wasted her life because she's been in Dibley for 10 years."

Dawn's own reaction on returning to the set after five years' absence was that "it felt just like putting a nice old cardie on"!
