Little Britain has topped a poll to find the UK's funniest sketch.

Channel 4 held another of its comedy run-downs last night, this time to find the best comedy sketch.

After around 32,000 votes were cast, the best was named the Little Britain sketch in which bogus wheelchair-user Andy dive-bombs into a swimming pool from the top board.

The full top ten was:

1. Little Britain: Lou & Andy - Swimming Pool
2. Monty Python's Flying Circus: Dead Parrot
3. The League of Gentlemen: Tubbs & Edward - Road Men
4. Little Britain: Vicky Pollard - Swimming Pool
5. The Two Ronnies: Four Candles
6. Goodness Gracious Me: Going For An English
7. Victoria Wood - As Seen On TV: Acorn Antiques - Original
8. The Morecambe & Wise Show: Breakfast 9. The Fast Show: Ted & Ralph - Drinking Game
10. Brass Eye: Good Aids/Bad Aids

Do you agree with this list? What's your top ten? Let us know below.

Little Britain rocks!!! But where was 4 Yorkshiremen, that cracks me up!!

Dave Doherty
Where is 2 Pints on this list? and also is there a series 6? I seriously hope so because it is hilarious! Well done Susan Nickson.

Louisa
Some French and Saunders in there might have been nice. I know that it is many years on since they first hit our screens, but i think that they have just as much longevity as Monty Python and the Two Ronnies and such.

Rob Hyman
I thoroughly agree with Rob Gilroy, I think it is a travesty that a poorly written sketch by two wannabe Laurel and Hardy's came number 1 above such classics as the Dead Parrot sketch, breakfast and Four candles! All of which are a credit to good comedy sketch writing and took time and effort to forge. The qaulity of language and acting in four candles will be recognised for years to come. In the most elequant way i can say, i believe the people behind little britain should be shot at dawn. Cheers

Avie
Kev, I completely agree with you! Much as I am a huge fan of LB and have been since it first came on the digital airwaves, I am really shocked to see it hit no.1. I thought this poll had been done before anyway and four candles had won it? Anyway, I agree with most of the comments made by all - there are so many absolute classics from Monty Python, Morecambe & Wise and the Two Ronnies that will never be surpassed, mainly because of their superb use of language and timing rather than the use of grotesque characters. One of my all time favourites M&W with "Mr Preview"....

I am a big fan of Little Britain, but was disappointed to see it as no.1 comedy sketch of all time. The Two Ronnies' "Four Candles" or Morecombe and Wise's "Breakfast Sketch" should have had that title, in my humble opinion. But you know what?, I'm not gonna let it ruin my life x

Once again it seems that sketch shows with relentless silly catch phrases triumph over genuine wit. This poll was not a true reflecton of the British public. It was, if you like, a 'little britain' that voted. Not doubt youngsters who lack the ability to store more than one thing in their mind at a time. I was however delighted to see The Day Today and Brass Eye make an appearance. There is some hope... Oh and to those proposing Red Dwarf, Young Ones, etc, as great as they are they are sitcoms not sketch shows.

Emma
Must admit I prefer the sketches in LB with the fat naked woman. Don't know if they are funny, I can't help but laugh. Trouble is I am a 50 year old woman with a waistline that is growing daily!! I love the Kryton scene in Red Dwarf with the double polaroid! Adore the scene in Smack the Pony at the swimming pool. Got to admit though, I love things like Will & Grace and other American comedy characters.

James Phillips
What a world we live in. Bo' Selecta! gets past preview tests, the BBC only repeats Only Fools and Horses instead of Monty Python or Not the Nine o'clock News and Little Britain makes the top spot in a comedy poll. Yes, I find LB oddly funny, mainly because physical comedy still excites the six year old in me, but compared to most classic television such as the Two Ronnies with brilliant writing, LB falls short. It's a motto for life, repeated/current programmes will ultimately beat classics. (Think Only Fools beating Blackadder to best sitcom last year- had Porridge been repeated once a week for the ten weeks beforehand, it would probably have one). Lumberjack song at 49 and Bo Selecta in the top 20? I prove my point.

Aaron Brown
Little Britain is certainly great in its own right - but as everyone else has said, for Lou & Andy to be the best British comedy sketch ever is just plain insulting to any serious comedy fan. In my opinion, it should have been one of the Morecambe & Wise entries at number one.

Kirsty
I do like Little Britain, but me and my friends were appalled that it came out top, ahead of the two Ronnies, Monty Python and Morecambe and Wise. It is true that people tend to vote for the shows they remember most of, but even so the pythons etc. were legends of comedy and judging by the comments here, most people seem to agree! :)

Sam Clews
I'm a huge fan of Monty Python, however I do not think that the Dead Parrot sketch is as funny as people make out. Three of my favourite sketches, the Ministry of Silly Walk, the Spanish Inquisition and 'Nudge-Nudge Wink-Wink say no more' did make it into the top 30, however, I think that one of these should have won as they are all better than anything Little Britain has to offer, despite me being a huge fan of it. Some glaring Python exclusions which should have been included, I felt were: The Bruces sketch, the Argument sketch and the Hell's Grannie's sketch. These are all works of sheer genius!

Babby Bog
How can little britain be so high and Peter Cook be so low????? ITS CRIMINAL! + good aids/bad aids aint the best bit from Brass eye

GéRáRdÓ
er...wot da hell? little britain at no. 1? er...hello i am 13 and i know dat monty python and (my favourite) the league of gentleman could top those NEday! y da hell R people constantly amused by "yeah, I know!"!!!!!!! @ my skwl all i hear is that awful catchphrase...i think Matt Lucas and David will- sorry walliams seriously need 2 rethink their series and introduce sum new characters into that show hu R actually funny! little britain got boring after ,like, 2 episodes. its da same lines every week! get sum new material! way 2 go monty python and league of gentleman...u both know that theres at least 1 person out here with good taste! LITTLE BRITAIN!?!?!?wot da hell!

conor coogan horne
Yet again these polls have made us stay up for 3 hours hoping for something good to be at number one, and yet again...there isn't. I am 9 years old and I'm a big fan of the old stuff like monty python and the young ones, so when I saw that little britain was number I felt incredibly angry. I fail to see what's so funny about these Lou and andy sketches. I thought that the dead parrot sketch was going to be number one and was looking forward to it but - like always - I'd forgot how rubbish these polls were. Who votes for these stupid things anyway. P.S. where was the young ones in that thing.

will
i basically agree with wht everyone has said except the person who said that Little Britain should have come first, there are a lot funny things on T.V that should of had it, but thats ignorant people for you. Isn't everyone here fed up with everyone copying them, with the stupid expressions. anyway some thing else should have come first

Rob Gilroy
I'm not even going to bother mentioning the show because i share the majority view with you good people but i will say Hurrah to those of you that are not afraid to admit just how bad Little Britain is and how poorly it is written. The problem is once something that starts out quite good catches hold everyone loves it and the demand gets higher which means they work faster to bring it out and the quality goes down. The second series of Little Britain was dreadful and it furiates me when no one sees the drop in quality which makes it a crime when not only does it over shadow other T.V shows which are genuinely clever and well-planned like The League of Gentlemen (Hooray, number 3!) but also when it beats old classic programmes like Monty Python and The Two Ronnies where time and effort have been put into those great shows. Well i'd better wrap it up know before i keep on ranting but i will say one thing, which is the Andy and Lou sketches sum up Little Britain by it being humour based on laziness or to put it another way lazy humour. They claim to take influence from TLoG but when the hell will they start showing it! I hope more people including those at the BBC start concentrating more on the clever, original stuff than that which could be written by two unfunny kids.

me is a disa greein to that
i think red dwarf should be number 1. it's heaps funny and sort of crazy. i'm crazy, so it goes without saying why i like it

Celia
As much as i like/tolerate Little Britain, no way did it deserve to get the top spot. Damn you Britain and damn me for not voting. Yay for Brass Eye getting in the top 10 though!

Mr.Blonde
It was good to see Tubbs and Edward in third, but there should have been more from the eague of Gentlemen!

tarquin
i am probably a bit of an odd lemon but i don't actually like little britain and thought it showed that itsreally only fools who vote in these polls if it got to number one. i was also quite shocked by how low the 4 yorkshiremen sketch was, but was glad at the amount of times monty pyhthon appeared, as well as league of gentlemen and some other being mentioned. but as someone above said, its the whole public consciousness thing and lets just hope no one takes this list seriously

doug ashington
I agree with Kev Williams . Sketches which are fresh in the mind because they are recent will always score high .If this was done a couple of years ago league of gentlemen and bo selector would have scored higher and probably Ally g would be in the top ten . But the showing of older sketches by the two ronnies,Morecombe and wise and Monty python maybe because of short memories through continuous repeats and releases on dvd .

Liz
I could not believe that this sketch made number one! Little britain does have some very funny sketches but to see this at the top of the poll is nonsense. Just take the top two for example. The writing in the Monty Python sketch is superb, its words and timing are genius, it even cites Hamlet for goodness sake. And the performance is simply exquisite. The Little Britain sketch however could have been thought up in the lunch hour of a group of 12-yr-olds and includes some cringingly contrived writing which is shockingly unrealistic. I can't say much about the performances when basically the joke boils down to a fat man jumping in a pool. On the other hand, Hoorah! Going for an English made the top ten.

sian champion
"Little Britain" is the funniest programme to hit our screens since "Red Dwarf" in 1988. I'm so glad that not one, not two, but THREE of its sketches were included in the top fifty! Well done, LB!

Ben
I think Little Britain is a good show, but I thought 'Lou and Andy' getting number one was ridiculous. I agree with the posts above that the sketches are far too predictable and are the same each episode (Lou turns his back and Andy walks, or Andy asks for something then proclaims he doesn't like it.' I also agree that the League of Gentlemen is brilliant, with really good, scary and hilarious characters that can actually get inside of. My favourites are Papa Lazarou, Pauline, The Dentons and Charlie and Stella. The Channel 4 programme was still good entertainment though.

Kev Williams
Yet again these "polls" are topped by somethin gwhich remains in the collective conscience due to the mere fact it is recent. Much as I love Little Britain, I could not say that this sketch is better than some of the greats by Morecambe and Wise, Two Ronnies etc. This is the fatal flaw in these sort of polls, be they song based, sketch based, etc. - what is freshest in the publics mind will win! Discuss! ;-) CHeers, Kev Williams

ryan thomas
the little britain sketch would have been funny if it were not the most predictable joke ever (barring any other of their sketches!!). every week that programme has the same jokes but in slightly different settings. the characters have absolutely no depth thus it makes the show heartless and very, very hard to find funny. well done league of gentlemen though! those boys are a class apart.
