After yesterday's launch of a stand-up course for kids, a Liverpool group has come forward to say they did it first.
A similar scheme to the one mentioned yesterday has been running in Liverpool for nearly three years¼, the organisers were quick to point out.
Stand Out was launched at the Liverpool Comedy Festival in 2002, and includes a monthly club, with a professional headliner and compere, where teenage graduates of the six-week course can showcase their work.
Since it was launched, more than four hundred 14 to 18-year-olds have been given a grounding in stand-up comedy by the team of tutors. The London-based course, announced by comic James Campbell yesterday, is aimed at younger children, aged 7 to 13.
Stand Out's next club night, at the Walk On The Plank boat at Pier Head, takes place this Friday, and will be webcast by the BBC for Comic Relief:
Headliner John Bishop said: "Liverpool has a great comic tradition and it's very reassuring to see Stand Out supporting a new generation of young comedians."
