Protestors hold anti-blasphemy demonstration outside BBC Television Centre.

It's not every day that comedy news happens directly outside our office unless you count the comedy and news programmes being produced every day.
But at roughly midday today, demonstrators gathered outside Television Centre to protest against the BBC's decision to broadcast Jerry Springer the Opera in a televised edition of the controversial stage show.

You can read more about the protest and the content of the show at BBC News.
What I want to know, though, is whether this is the first time an opera has caused such a fuss.
