Victoria Wood is bringing Acorn Antiques to the London stage.

Acorn Antiques

Victoria Wood's spoof soap opera Acorn Antiques is coming to the West End in the new year - as a musical.

And the comic will share the role of Mrs Overall with Julie Walters, who originally played her in the As Seen On TV series.

The other stars of the original, Celia Imrie and Duncan Preston, will also recreate their roles, alongside Men Behaving Badly's Neil Morrissey.

Wood, who will play Mrs Overall on Monday nights and Wednesday matinees, said: "It was never my intention to be in it, but it seemed a good way of pleasing the audience and keeping the excitement.

"Eight shows a week of singing and dancing is a big undertaking for one person."

Trevor Nunn has directed the West End show, which opens at the Theatre Royal Haymarket on February 9 and has been scheduled for a 16-week run.

Hopefully, the wobbly sets will last that long.
