Your Thoughts - New Sitcoms?

[an error occurred while processing this directive] [an error occurred while processing this directive] 2004

Send in your opinions on the current crop of new shows...

There's a lot of new comedy on offer at the moment.

Green Wing
Carrie and Barry
Eyes Down
Grumpy Old Men
All About Me
Good Girls Don't
Early Doors
And more to come...

What do you think of it all? We thought Green Wing was great but we were rather disappointed with Carrie and Barry. They say it takes six new sitcoms to produce one winner. Sometimes seems a much higher ratio. Tell us your thoughts.

Send us your comment now. We'll publish the best on this page.

Ian gilchrist
There's gotta be a 3rd series of Early Doors, surely?! The best comedy in ages - brilliantly written and acted, why this was never put on mainstream BBC1 is an absolute mystery.

Bradley
I just got hooked! Love it! It is innovative, hi-larious, and a pure delight to watch. Has anyone heard of a release for the DVD?

Sarah
Green Wing is the best new comedy! When will there be another series? ps keep the speeding up and slowing down - it's good! and the music too.

Fluff
Yay! Other people love Green Wing!which is strange cos when I told my friends how great Green Wing was and gave my a weird look... ^_^ Julian Rhind tutt is FINE! His hair! Oh wow oh wow oh wow!!!!! Green Wing is coming back SO yes!!!!!!!!

Melody
There should be a third series of 'Eyes Down'. Now that Paul 0'Grady is so high-profile again, and has his own award-winning show, he would have a new army of fans watching. His supporting actors were fantastic, especially the multi-talented Sheridan Smith. Her comedy-timing and reactions are amazing. Please do a third series, BBC.

lusty
I thank Green Wing everyday for bringing Julian Rhind-Tutt into my home and my life. He is truly the most beautiful male specimen I have ever seen!!

Miranda Morrison
I am a HUGE fan of green wing and i would die if there wasn't another series! Grumpy old men is good as well. It reminds me of my dad so much!

sandra
i think greenwing is fantastically funny, the need for a new hospial comedy styled programme was very high and this comedy just filled the spot nicely on my sofa!

itchy
Green Wing grew on me as did the incredibly beautiful Julian Rhind-Tutt. He is sweet, sexy, funny and his hair?! Be still my beating heart. Why oh why does he have a girlfriend?

Luke Stanton (AGED 13)
BRING BACK BLACKADDER!

sarah
How long has it been since greenwing has been shown?! does anyone know when the dvd is out? hope there will be loads of good extras! loving Mac! what a cliffhanger. Really can't wait for s2. Long live greenwing! Michelle Gomez+Mark Heap are amazing:)

Benji
Greenwing !!!!!!!!!!!!!! is life, lust, comedy and dark corners in the best possible way, it's broken, distorted, sexually warped and magnifies human obsession and oddness, only the finest in writing, casting and production / directing, makes me want to act, makes me want to dance funny, makes me want big long arms to embrace Mr or Mrs Channel 4, Thaaaaaaankyoooooooouu. Please bring it back.... 'Big Brother' is dead....ITV is dead generally, BBC1 and 2 used to have pride but now they are the patron saints of lost causes, channel four holds the key, Vicar of Dribbley !! please.. Weak, sappy, lifeless over written underscored, diluted half humour ! cmon BBC's and ITV get it together, you're turning into the worst shopping centre in town, nothing to sell, nothing to say, no where to go, get rid of those shinny people who are over dressed and are paid too much, they are rubbish, no one believes them anyway but if you put crap on our plates we'll eat it because we're dumb like that.. inspire us because you can. B

Amy
Thank god there are people out there who think Julian Rhind-Tutt is ace too! He is a great actor and his hair is fab too. He is the King of the Fraise-Blondes. Can't wait for the next series of Green Wing and I think the DVD is out in October(?). Hope J R-T does more stuff where he has a lead role!

Shirley
I cannot understand anyone not finding Green Wing absolutely hilarious. It is the most refreshing comedy to come out since Black Books. I particularly like Doctors Mac and Guy, sometimes friends, sometimes foes, but the whole ensemble acting is fantastic. I can hardly wait until the next series. First, though, they need to repeat this first series, so that all the people I have told about it, and who did not see it, will get the chance to join Green Wing's fan club!

cassy
please make more programs with julian rhind-tutt please i love him 2 bits the bit where the ambulance was hanging over the cliff was bringing an excellent glow to his face!

Helen
I saw The Mighty Boosh on BBC3 and I thought it was great. I've heard it's now on BBC2 - does anyone know what time it's on?

pixi
absolutely loved green wing, when are they briging out the dvd? does anyone know when/if the new series will be out? mac is sooo hot, i pratically fainted the first time i saw him! anyone who doesn't like green wing is seriously messed up in the head!

Lucy
Green Wing-nooooooo!! I can't believe it's the last episode and the gorgeous Mac (Julian Rhind-Tutt) is hanging over a cliff!! It's not FAIR!! And they won't start filming until Tamsin Greig (Caroline) has had her baby!! (awww!) I cannot wait for it to start again cos Mac is so fit!! (aged 13!!!)

kimoncomedy
I think green wing is brill! Its a mix of everything and my family and friends love it! Even my very moody gran who hates anything that goes on for more than one episode loves it! And shes 70 something!

Shakz
Greenwing is the best comedy of ALL TIME! Its such a gr8 laugh from start to finish no other program makes me laugh in the opening scene

LiNdSaY
iv been watching greenwing and its GREAT!! its so different to anything else. iv watched every episode including the repeats. its halarious! and i love dr mac (julian rhind tutt)

cassandra
last episode was a great cliffhanger very good cant wait till next series please bring out dvd pleaseeeeee

laura smat
i think that green wing is the best comedy ive ever seen in my life! attractive dr. mac (julian rhind-tutt) is brilliant at acting and he is oh-so fit!! anyone no his number??!!

Ranarian
I am completely obsessed with watching Green Wing. I forgot to tape the house party episode and have been hating myself ever since. Every week I watch my videos of it at least four times. I can't wait for the DVD. This is the kind of show which demonstrates what amazing talent is out there. The obviously improvised stuff is brilliant and really adds to the intelligence of the show.

Scissorsistersarah
Another Green Wing related praise of fantasticness. Absolutly love Sue White, maybe I see a little of myself in her...anyway she is absolutly gorgous. The speeding up and slowing down is great. Thank goodness we have some proper and fresh British wit rather than another all been done before sitcom.

Faith
GreenWing is the marmite of channel four comedy. After watching enough to judge, you either "love it or hate it" im happy to say from my experience, the non-believers are in the minority. It's a refreshing step back to what British comedy used to be: sharp, witty & dripping with sarcasm. I'm all for it (and this has nothing to do with the fact that i'm hopelessly inlove with the gorgeous Dr. Mac -(Julian Rhind-tutt) It could do with dropping the slightly irritating "speed ups" but apart from that, Bring on the marmite!

Sgni
Green Wing rules! It's the most excellent thing on TV! Every week the thing that drives me through all the ridiculous GCSE preparations is the idea that I will get to see the gorgeous Julian Rhind-Tutt (Mac) on those glorious fridays. Can't wait for the DVD, even though I've taped it. Please, PLEASE don't stop the series! IT is so amazingly hilarious!! LOVE for Green Wing.

cassy
i love julian rhind tutt who plays mac he is soooooooooooooooooo fit i cry everytime it finishes i wish i could meet him in real life age 14

Hannah
Seriously all you people that don't 'get' greenwing and therefore decide to slag it off, give us a break. It's hilarious, new and physically makes my sides hurt from laughing so much - just what friday night TV needed. Plus Dr Mac is gorgeous, anyone know who plays him..............?

Macs lovers
We love Mac - Julian Rhind-Tutt, the actor who plays him is incredibley talented and really really hot! Did anyone see his fight with Guy? What a manly man he is - we were finding him v sexy at that point. We love Sue White too, the counsellor kind of person - actually, what is her role in the hospital?! We detest and loath Guy and hate him for thinking of cutting off Mac's hair! No way would Caroline chose Guy over Mac! And Alan, played by Mark Heap is scary and sickening - but what a great actor to make you truly sickened. He has his party piece every week which is always hilarious e.g. recorder and this week, hanging himself. See, to all those silly people who dislike Green Wing - surely you can see the genius of the characters and the great story. You probably just don't get that kind of humour - which is very sad, we pity you!

K2K
Green Wing:- 50% brilliance, 50% predictable boring rubbish. My opinion changes every week, grrrr!

gloria
Green Wing is just brilliant. It's a fine antidote to Will and Grace and Friends style comedies. Spaced fans will appreciate the breath of fresh air into the Friday night Channel 4 viewing. Bring on the DVD with all the whistles and bells and please, please let there be another series.

El Dorkus
GREEN WING!!!!!!!!!! Is fabby, and pure, side-splitting genius!!

Brunette
I dont know about anyone else, but I find Julian Rhind-Tutt really attractive. Lucky Tamsin Greig gets to snog him! Im loving Greenwing, best comedy Ive seen since 'The Office'.

Bennyboy
Greenwing is Totally off the wall, totally disturbed, I've never seen humour in the editing as well as the acting go together like this and my God how good is everyone ? every character is completely on the edge, there's no particular story line (well there is but then it turns back to you and laughs) As for dodgey Lockets and dancing to mobile phone rings it's the finest in... er madness. I will never be the same again. Please bring it out on DVD, please do a christmas special please don't make too many and become rubbish. Bxxx

Greg
I think that Green Wing is incredible! I really can't understand these people who say it's rubbish, it rules! Aren't we supposed to have a great humour, being Brits? Can anyone tell me a website to find out about the cast?

Wayne
I am enjoying Carrie and Barry. I know it's nothing new but it is entertaining and has had some funny moments.

cassy
i think greenwing is the best i think it should stay on forever age 14

GWaddict
Green Wing... i found the first three episodes were too long and started to send me to sleep during the second half... but by episode 4 i really began to enjoy and appreciate the dry, truly British wit that eventually had me in silent fits of laughter. And personally i quite like the speed changes, you can easily detect a characters mood during the slow parts, and the fast parts just look funny! last episode? i LOVED it! I'm living for friday night!

KC
I love Green Wing, and I miss the Mighty Boosh. More of these, please. I agree with previous posts: Carrie and Barry seems to have been "done" before.

EMmmas
I watched greenwing on friday and thought this one has got to be the best yet, it was oo funny! :) and i'm kinda getting used to the whole speed up slow down thing they do, its kinda effective aswell.

Dave
Greenwing is wacky, and I can understand it not being everyones cup of tea. It takes a bit of getting into for a start, helps if you 'got' smack the pony humour. Early days though, will have to see how the stories develop further.

Rosie
Greenwing is great. The actor who plays Mac is mighty fine!

Jay
I'm enjoying Carrie & Barry, but I can't help feeling it was meant to be a MBB spin-off about Tony & Debs (scuppered by Leslie Ash's ill health). It could just be Simon Nye's writing style though. This week's scenes with Barry trying on Carrie's clothes out of boredom was pure MBB Tony.

CDavis
Green Wing is wooonderful, and getting better with each episode. Not surprising, though, that it's not everyone's cup o' tea. One question: where's the divine Doon McK? This looks like a perfect vehicle for her.

Betty
Green Wing is terrible, it is not funny at all, need some more sitcoms like friends and will and grace!!

Steve
Green Wing is like the Emperor's New Clothes. A few papers said it was brilliant so everyone blindly agreed. But as it goes on everyone is beginning to realise that it's over-hyped rubbish. Just a lot of smug actors showing off for over an hour, with no decent stories, characters (rather than one-note charicatures) or jokes but with pointless effects and music stuck on to make it seem innovative. Garbage.

sam
greenwing was exellent!

Natalie
The Mighty Boosh!!! It's so fantastic! Better than all the rest put together! And whoever decided that All About Me should have another series, come here ... I've got a very sharp object that I'd like to introduce to your eyeball...

Peter
Why cant the good old Beeb bring back the Vicar of Dibley - I know it may not be classed as cutting edge comedy, but it never failed to make me laugh!!!

Jon
Green Wing is just too long - they should split it into 30 minute episodes. Early Doors is fantastic - can't wait for Series 1 on DVD!!

ligy
i think greenwing is verry interesting but there is a lot of fondling of boobs and near to sex references

Frankie
Watched Early Doors, last night absolutely brilliant!, great characters perfect script Ken as the landlord perfect just his face makes me laugh! If this dosen't win an award for an outstanding comedy, then I don't know what it's all about.....10 ou of 10

espidog
Green Wing is wonderful. Looks like many of the character relationships and scenarios have been developed through improvisation before anyone put pen to paper. One bizarre oversight, though: theirs must be the only British hospital staffed entirely by white europeans! I don't think I've seen a single black or asian face yet. Ooops!

iain w
Green Wing - can't remember the guy's name, but if I said "the guy who's a cross between Alan Partridge and David Brent" would everyone know who I meant? He looks like Alan Partridge too! Hmm... The speeding up was nice, but overused and often in the wrong parts I felt. A slight hint of Scrubs in there too, and maybe a dash of No Angels from the Channel 4 shelf of hospital comedy.

jon
thought last nights early doors was wonderful. brilliant writing and faultless performances. highly recommended

PAUL
Early Doors is brillant, gently moving and funny. Craig Cash's finest work even better than the Royle Family

Chris Page
I'd hoped All About Me would have learnt from it's previous mistakes. Raj is still an afterthought, a cipher. Why don't they actually give him some dialogue now he has a communicator? He shows none of the typical teenage cheek he should have, regardless of his disability. Green Wing is pretentious rubbish, Carrie and Barry is the best BBC comedy for ages. Early Door is STILL not funny. Good Girls Don't is the best import for a long while.

ollie
green wing is good but i think the speeding up bit is annoying, but its a fresh new comedy as good as smack the pony i say

Bart
I like Satellite City on BBC 2W, so I haven't bothered to watch Carrie and Barry.

rosie
i love the mighty boosh! its amazing, funny and cool - i hope it is on bbc2 soon or at least repeated on bbc3 (hint hint) !

D Williams
Good Girls Don't...absolutely hilarious! Jane is a scream, Davis is a dream. Cannot wait to see more!

Luke
Green Wing is fantasic. A real must-see, and refreshingly original.

Daz
Grumpy old mens a classic. Well played bbc2 for putting it back on our screens. And new old men on the shows a great additions. Ill but you a drink bbc2!!

wingy
i think that green wing is fab!the cast is great, and i like the speeding up and the cutting up, and the style its produced is really cool and imaginative. its the best new thing since the last series of black books, and compared to all other friday night entertainment its like a piece of matured cheese

Michael
Green Wing is fantastic, very sharp and witty. Carrie and Barry is a the basic unfunny bbc comedy, husband, wife, odd neighbour, sitcoms need something new. Well done bbc2 for making a second series of Early Doors, last series was fantastic i hopen the second is even better.

Tom M
All new BBC comedies have been pretty uninspred lately. The only good ones recently are My Family an My Hero. The ysould bring back more comedy classics to prime time, like Keeping up Appearances, Vicar of Dibley, The Good Life (Instead of jumping them round the schedules in the early afternoons). Green Wing was good though not great. Still it is loads better than the recent BBC lot!

aj
eyes down - dear dear dear, awful. Carrie and Barry is worse than the one with amanda holden and theakston. And how on earth did all about me get a THIRD series, its awful. Green wing however is very funny.

Jack F
I thought Carrie and Barry was increndibly predictable, but did have some funny parts. Green Wing wasnt very good.all the slow mo stuff seems to break up the story and there are like a million differnt things happening at once.id rather watch scrubs.

Danny
The problem with new comedy is that the writers seem to think that people don't want the same type of comedy any more. But I would rather watch a repeat of a Morcambe and Wise show then most of the comedy shows on the air now. The Mighty Boosh was refreshing change of comedy.

Susie
Why all the praise for Green Wing? It's full of rubbish jokes you can see coming a mile off but pepped up to look 'trendy' with allt hose irritating effects.

ben
i think it's great that paul o' grady is back for another seris of eyes down and it's also good to see that the lovable mary is still in the show and hasn't been kicked off for a new character

Q
Green Wing - brilliant; Eyes Down - Why, Oh, Why? Grumpy Old Men - It's ME!! Early Doors - A Grower. The rest i haven't seen.

Simon
I can't believe 'All About Me' is back - this mawkish sentimental tripe may be many things, but funny it is not. I suppose it just ticks more 'PC' boxes than any other programme.

Ziggy Newman
I think all of them are awful. Boring and sex obsessed. Carrie and Barrie is old humour that has been done before and doesn't work any more, saw grumpy old men and didn't understand it, all about me is ok but some of the characters are annoying like Sima, Early Doors doesn?t appeal to everyone, Eyes Down is irritating, Good Girls Don't is weak, limited and cringe-worthy and Green Wing is the most boring show I have ever seen. WAY to many sex references, no plot, no likeable characters, down right awful! Come on TV channels stop making shows about sex and pubs and make something original for a change!

ROB
Watched greenwing thought it was really good.

Simon
I enjoyed Carrie And Barrie in bits but it's certainly lacking something. Martin Clunes, Caroline Quentin and Leslie Ash perhaps?

David
I Watched Green Wing Last Friday and thought it was good, ok not great, but certainly worth staying in on a friday night to watch it! and Defently worth missing Eyes Down (Which is on the same Time). As For Carrie and Barry Just another M.B.B

Minty Crabtree
Green Wing was quite nice; the film effects took a little while to get used to, but as ever, Mark Heap was superb and the two cheeky young doctors were quite saucy.

Peter Piper
I fancy Tamsin Greig. I will watch Green Wing whether I think it's good or not. BTW I think it's good so win win situation.

Tony
I didn't think Grumpy Old Men fell under the heading of 'comedy'. More factual programming that happened to be funny. Early doors is really touching humour: understated & underrated. Green Wing is refreshingly original. The only good thing about Eyes Down is the wonderful Sheridan Smith. Havn't seen the others.

Spenborough
Carrie and Barry had some good lines but seemed really lazily acted. Typical hammy sicom acting. The others I haven't seen yet but look forward to catching some Grumpy Old Men.

Curly
It's good to see Grumpy Old Men returning, but I can't believe Eyes Down is back - I've seen funnier disaster appeals.
