Bollo, the eldest and most respected gorilla at the Zooniverse is gravely ill.
His good friend Vince comforts him by reminding him of the good times they have had.
With a visit from a very rich sponsor imminent, Bob Fossil persuades Howard to dress in an ape suit and replace Bollo, so that he can continue accepting sponsorship money for the gorilla.
But Howard takes method acting a step too far and Fossil reads him the riot act.
Determined to prove he's a convincing gorilla, Howard leaps around the cage beating his chest. A grim reaper glides through the bars of the cage and Howard collapses.
Howard wakes up in a taxi being driven to Monkey Hell and tries to explain that he's not a gorilla but a man in a monkey suit. The reaper takes him to the Death Cabs office (aka Limbo) so he can sort things out.
Howard watches his funeral through a mirror and is disappointed that there aren't more people there.
Howard is told that he has to go to Monkey Hell but is allowed one haunting before he goes, so he visits Vince. He arrives to find Vince and Bollo smashing his precious jazz records but he's more concerned with asking for help.
Vince can't put his hand through Howard as most of the budget has been spent on his hair. He's so shocked by Howard's statement that "We go old, lose our hair and die" that he rushes to Naboo for advice.
Naboo interrupts his chat about digital cameras to give Vince a tub of his miracle wax and points him to a mirror.
While asking what he should do about Howard, Vince falls through the mirror and meets Mr Susan, guardian of the Mirror World. Vince has to pick the right mirror to go to Limbo or will be trapped forever.
Howard is already in Monkey Hell, facing the Ape of Death. Vince's arrival only results in him being captured as well and they both face a pit of fire.
Vince notices that the Ape of Death has really bad hair and asks him, "Haven't you ever heard of product?". A few minutes later, Vince has transformed his hair. Feeling 'super sexy', the Ape of Death declares he will set them free and celebrates his new look with a song.
Vince and Howard are happy to be back at the zoo, and the balance has been restored. Bollo suddenly collapses and a grim reaper walks towards his cage...
