So You Think You're Funny?

Nick Sun wins stand up competition and proves he is.

Peter Kay, Lee Mack, Tommy Tiernan and Dylan Moran have all previously won the competition, which is decided after a string of regional heats, then semi-finals and a final in Edinburgh's Gilded Balloon.

This year's title was taken by Australian Nick Sun, who wins £2,000 and a trip to the Just For Laughs comedy festival in Montreal.

After winning, the low-energy comedian told the audience: "There's really nothing like a competition element to suck the fun out of an otherwise enjoyable thing. I'm no good at acceptance speeches, so I'm going to stand here and revel in my own pomposity."

Placed second was energetic Russell Kane, who joked: "I'd like to thank Imodium for getting me through this evening." And third place went to Chris McCausland, a blind comic. The other finalists were Lee Bananrd, Rob Collins, Rose Heiney, Zoe Lyons (Funny Women winner), Jariath Regan and Susan Taylor.

Sean LockAfter the final, which was hosted by Sean Lock, there was the inevitable party, but not before the gathering took part in a Radio 5 Live show being broadcast from the venue. The newly crowned Sun was remarkably quiet about his victory, but the effusive Gilded Balloon supremo Karen Koren more than made up for that. I think I got a word in edgeways.
