Steve Bennett Departs

He's off to Edinburgh but the journey isn't so smooth.

It didn't even take me until Edinburgh to spot my first comic even as I enter Heathrow's Terminal 1, I spot Jermaine Clement from New Zealand's fourth most popular folk parody duo Flight Of The Conchords.

We end up spending slightly longer together than hoped. The flight is full, so we're both bumped on to the next one, two hours later. Which turns out to be another half an hour late on top of that. And then it takes more than half an hour to get our luggage at Edinburgh Airport. But BMI had a very good reason for this final delay, a very good reason indeed. Seems it's down to operational reasons. So that explains it all.

It comes to something when you conclude that your best travel option is to brave Britain's parlous rail network next time.

Once in Edinburgh, it's like Fringehog day, seeing the same people in the same places doing the same things as they were exactly 12 months ago.

Though the London I left behind oh-so long ago was basking in bright summer heat, while Edinburgh is mired in its famous mist. It's good to be back. Now for that first beer of the season.
