The Witan Wisdom Garden
Designed by Nicholas Dexter
Nicholas Dexter's design encourages the visitor to escape from an often harsh and stressful urban environment and reconnect with nature. Modern and minimalistic materials create a calm and ordered effect.
"The theme of this garden is wisdom – the application of experience, knowledge, judgement and understanding. It is a garden designed as a space to escape to, away from the turbulence of modern life and to allow for clarity of thought.
Within the garden you are supported above a fast flowing stream by glass, which allows you the simple pleasure of observing moving water. Let it wash away your worries while an elegant curved wall shelters and protects you from the outside world."
For me, this is the best in show - it's all subjective I know and that is what makes Chelsea so exciting! This garden uses the ubiquitous "water feature" in a fresh, new and exciting way - the way the water hits the wall at the back and then flows down the stream is wonderful!!!!!
I would be interested to know why this only got a silver. The brief must have been executed wrongly? The suspended view of the stream bed is new for me - conceptual gold?
I'm really looking forward to seeing this garden, what a shame Chelsea medals don't seem to reflect the originality and bravery of this design. I hope the public will offer you lots of praise instead!
Again this was a gold for me. A really original idea that seemed to fulfill the brief of tranqulity in a small space perfectly. This one will be an inspiration for many people and Nicholas should be very proud.
Can't believe this only got a silver ! A courageous idea for a first time chelsea garden - and excellently delivered. A silver gilt at least - to give somthing higher to aim for.
A stunning and beautiful garden! I loved the water running under the glass which gave it a completely fresh feel. The choice of plants to was exciting and just made me want to have this one myself.
The iris look stunning in front of the plain white, but what after they've gone over? Lovely use of colour overall, very restful. One of my favourites this year.
A fabulous garden with innovative use of glass to expand the area available for gardening and biodiversity with a fully functional seating area.
I fully expect to see the use of glass in decking to start to become commonplace now, especially as an excellent method for close, safe observation of water life in a garden used by very young children.
BRAVO!

I loved the expanded space and depth. Although expensive, I loved the perspex platform and can see it being inventively used in the future.
Mr Dexter definately a designer of the future
