Nature Ascending
Designed by Angus Thompson and Jane Brockbank
Angus and Jane were inspired by the boardwalks on nature reserves such as Slapton Ley in Devon, where plants force their way between the timbers of raised walkways, while underneath, wildlife flourishes undisturbed.
They wanted to create a multilayered, quiet space that actively encourages and celebrates the huge biodiversity that can be found in any small urban garden.
"This garden looks as if the owners have been away on holiday for three weeks, but what is still clearly visible is the tension between the contemporary lines of the design, and the planting, which is 'running riot' and threatening to take over."
Loved this garden and took away a lot of inspiration from it - for one my apple tree will be growing out of my decking by the end of this summer!!! Thanks!
It just looks full on immense. Without a doubt my favourite garden, its perfect. Would love a garden like that.
I wouldn't mind if my garden looked like this upon my return from a three-week holiday!
Here's to nature doing what it wants, weeds, and optimism. No pesticides, herbicides or fungicdes to bend nature to our will. Hopefully a haven for wildlife. This is what I call a garden. Geat.
Love it - it's great that in a Garden - the plants are the stars - well done. It looks simple - probably not, it looks effective- defintely is!
It shows you just how you can plant in such a small space. I like the chaotic look.
Good to see plain green cow parsley (Anthriscus sylvestris) on show, and in such a lovely space. One of our more beautiful wildflowers.
I agree with Yasmin. It will be even more gorgeous when those irises start to bloom. Super.
