Entente Cordiale
Designed by Patricia Thirion and Janet Honour
Patricia from Paris and Janet from London met while studying garden design - they became firm friends and gave each other a unique insight into the gardening traditions of their respective countries.
On 8 April 1904 the Entente Cordiale agreements were signed by Britain and France and the garden seeks to celebrate this deeper friendship. This intimate garden mixes elements of a more formal French approach with British informality.
"The garden is a fusion of what is best, what is traditional and what we love most about plants. It is simple, restful and will be strangely familiar to anyone from France or the UK. As in all good friendships you learn to appreciate differences and cherish similarities."
Absolutely stunning... so many ideas to try and recreate (some hope). Truly inspired.
Lovely clean lines, beautiful use of planting. The blue paintwork is perfect. Cream tea anyone? With brioche of course.
I saw this on Monday and was so disappointed that it only got a silvergilt. To me it was perfection and I wonder why didn't get a gold? To give James May, albeit a plastercine gold, is a travesty when these ladies did not get a gold. This does show how subjective judging is.
This would be lovely to rest in for a while, now how can I sneak it up to Glasgow!
I love this one too. It's so pretty and could be anywhere in France or UK.
Reminders of happy times in France!!!!
Love the colours - Well done, truly inspirational.
I think this is one of the best gardens this year. Stunningly beautiful and simple. Easy to recreate in your own garden. Very natural and patriotic.
