The Fenchurch Garden
Designed by Paul Hensey
"I am often inspired not by a visit to someone else's garden, or a photo of an exotic and masterful creation in a far-flung corner, but by a material or texture, whether used in a shop interior or in clothing.
So it was for this garden. Coming across an article on how concrete might be formed from tensioned fabric led me to Edinburgh University, where the shapes and textures that they are experimenting with are beautiful and the possibilities for a garden structure almost infinite.
I created some organic forms that supported the rear walls, but they quickly developed into almost tree root shapes. It seemed a natural evolution to allow them to flow from the walls and along the ground. The form of the garden flows from these shapes – the division between walls and floor is blurred as the planting too continues vertically upwards."
Well done!! to Paul Hensey for the unusual design and to Sam Bothwell for the construction. Fantastic Garden! Congratulations on a well deserved Silver Gilt and the award for Most Creative Garden.
Paul is designing my tiny garden in Hebden Bridge for me next month and so I am thrilled to see just how beautiful his work is. The concrete forms are really compelling, I love the way they weave through the slightly ethereal planting and wish I could see the real thing!
Well done for the silver gilt medal
This is so refreshingly unusual. I always thought I didnt like concrete in gardens, but done like this, in an organic form, it just looks so right with the planting.
Loved this garden the concrete forms juxtapose the planted wall so well
well done that man
What fabulous planting. This garden was inspirational and my favourite in its category.
This is a really lovely garden, i love the vertical planting!

Perfect. I cannot stop looking at this garden. I want to be a bug and live here forever.
