Eco Chic
Designed by Kate Gould
Kate transforms an inner-city location by using dramatic green walls, permeable materials and the planting of shade-tolerant plants.
The garden is also designed to look as striking from above (eg from a real-life apartment window or balcony) as it does when you are standing at its centre.
"Sometimes when I get onto a site, I am horrified by the amount of building materials left behind. I do believe that we throw away a lot that could still be used - with the application of a little imagination.
The idea behind the Eco Chic garden was to examine what might be created if we used these materials as if we had always intended to do so – demonstrating that recycling can be a beautiful, and indeed, chic activity and not just a bald political statement."
It is lovely,I like the pristine quality of this garden, even though my garden at home couldnt be more different. I could just imagine this in a city suburb and it would be a pleasure to look at all year round.
I really love this garden, the plants are beautiful together and I can really see people taking a lot of the components to adapt in their own gardens. I'd like to see a shot from above. I imagine that the materials used mean a garden like this would still have a lot of architectural interest in winter. Well done.
I am so glad this got Best Urban Garden, it's a place I could sit and just 'be' in. Well done.

Really beautiful garden, Kate. Relaxing, calming and understated, with some great touches that make it really special.
I think it oozed class and was the most 'liveable' garden of them all, and it really charmed me!
