"The Quilted Velvet Garden is based on a dream; following a long, arduous journey through the everyday world of work and domestic chores, eventually arriving (after many wrong turns) at a place of comfort and luxury.
I have been described as a horticultural artist, and indeed my approach to gardens is that of an artist; very instinctive. I find myself, by accident, somewhere between design and art.
I have a lot of ideas, not just for gardens and art installations but all manner of things. Having the idea is the most interesting and exciting part of the process; after that it's a long, hard slog to achieve the result I want."
This is a lovely garden that shows how gardens dont have to all be about flowers. indeed reminds me of hard times in life but a light at the end of the tunnel... well done x
I think this is most imaginative and wish I was able to get to see it at the show. Great piece of art.
Is it a garden or a chessboard? What is the designers¿ obsession with white, black and grey this year? These are not the colours of the garden!
Ok as art but not at all appealing as a garden - much too rigid.
The stepping stones look a little too high and risky to navigate and look more like seats. I'm not sure about the mass planting of Impatiens (maintaning them would be tricky and they do like their water). Not really a practical garden.
this is neither comfortable nor luxurious it is cold hard work arduous as he says and not at all restful... luxurious is peonies exuberant colour vivid blooms and an orchid or coloured lily or two... why do gardeners forget about flowers these days?

I adore this garden and as a fine art student I really appreciate the surrealism achieved by the quilted floor. It takes my mind to another place and brings about feelings associated with dreams and imagination, almost like a sea one doesn't want to fall into but is completely mesmerised by. Absolutely beautiful.
