"It's easy to say that you are inspired by modern architecture, design and culture. Who isn't? Renaissance gardens were built on ideas of architecture and were also influenced by the surrounding landscape and the notion of pruning nature in order to control it.
The famous Japanese artist, sculptor and landscape architect Isamu Noguchi transformed nature and created new landscapes in his many works. Both Italian gardens and Noguchi's works are my inspiration for The Daily Telegraph Garden because they use architecture in combination with a sense of theatre. They both want to contrast horticulture and nature by pruning plants.
My gardens and parks include an awareness of the huge variations in nature, culture and climate from the north to the south of Sweden. I always aim to achieve a distinctive character in each project. Swedish nature is present in all my designs due to the use of beautiful, natural, long lasting materials – notably timber, steel and granite. The planting is designed in the spirit of nature rather than mimicking it.
The roots of architecture in Sweden are from the Gustavian era [circa 1772-1809] and the modernism of the1950s – strong, elegant and sustainable - and that's how I want my designs to be, whether in a public space or a private garden."
Agree with one of the comments - 'not my first choice - not much 'soul' - didn't make me feel like relaxing there on a summer's day. More flowers - less cubes.
Beautiful, sophisticated, contemporary garden. I really liked the ultra-modern conservatory. Would love to have one!
Having seen the garden 'in the flesh' yesterday at Chelsea, it would not have been my choice for Best in Show. Although I can admire the immaculate design and execution, to me it felt somewhat sterile and lacking soul, and I also found it rather 'bitty'. I like modern designs, but they have to have some emotion too, and this one didn't.
Well done and congrats Mr Nordfjell. I love this garden. The colour palate is so restful and sophisticated. The contrast of texture created by the planting and the water is beautiful and I loved the space created by the overhanging rocks.
Beautiful.
Bit like Eurovision Song Contest - the unrealistic one wins again! This is a designers dream garden but NOT one for the average gardener.
I am currently studying Garden Design and its gardens like this that are truly inspiring. Definately the best show garden, 100% agree with the judges.
I must say it doesnt appeal! I find it lacking in soul. I guess its just a matter of taste, since I like cottage gardens.
Maybe when I actually get to see it on Saturday I will change my mind, but I doubt it!
A bit too bland for me - think it would become boring to live with.

A sophisticated garden which is a good balance of plants and hard landscaping. I too love the conservatory, and also the use of water.
