Applying for a BBC Charity Appeal Broadcast

Radio 4 and Lifeline

The BBC's UK-wide broadcast appeals are made weekly on BBC Radio 4 on Sunday mornings and evenings and monthly on BBC One on Lifeline. The Radio 4 appeal is repeated on Thursday afternoons and there is usually a repeat of Lifeline during the following week.

Blue Peter

The deadline for charities to apply for the 2009/10 Blue Peter Appeal has now passed however the 2009/10 Guidelines are still online as charities may find them useful as they are indicative of the type of information which will be required from charities wishing to apply for the 20010/11 Blue Peter Appeal. National Appeals

In addition to the UK-wide broadcast appeals, there are periodical national appeals in Wales and Northern Ireland. Applications from charities whose work is focused on these nations are considered at regular intervals by the respective National Appeals Advisory Committees.

BBC Northern Ireland National Appeals

BBC Northern Ireland allocates broadcast opportunities to local charities on the basis of recommendations from the Northern Ireland Appeals Advisory Committee. These include dedicated slots on local television and radio and make use of two regionalised versions of the network Lifeline programme. For more information contact:

BBC Scotland National Appeals

BBC Scotland discontinued regular appeals in 2000 due to lack of demand. This followed consultations with the voluntary sector in Scotland. However, should there be a request, the Scotland Appeals Advisory Committee would consider it and make a recommendation to broadcasting colleagues. For further information, write to:

England: Appeals on BBC Local Radio

BBC Local Radio stations broadcast information about charities and also appeals. Local charities working in a single area should contact the Managing Editor of their BBC Local Radio station. A list of BBC Local Radio stations can be found here.
