Prognosticate: 2008
Prognosticate: 2008

So what wonders can we expect from our beloved celebrities in 2008? Trying to predict the fortunes of the famous is a thankless task because they're so darn capricious, but we'll give it a go.

We'll start by polling some expert opinions. Some tabloids have their own ideas about who's going to be hot in '08.

The Daily Star has earmarked the following for consideration: Lily Allen, Alfie Allen, Jaime Winstone and Ruby Stewart (from the Kim, Rod family).

The only trouble is Lily Allen's the only one we have listed, although we have put Alfie, Jaime and Ruby forward for the vote in the past. We'll try them again in the new year.

The Sun has pencilled in X Factor's Leon Jackson as an early candidate for 'Bizarre's Caner Of The Year' award in 2008 and he's up for the vote over the Christmas period, so factor that into your pipe and smoke it.

There are other ways of receiving publicity aside from partying, though. Some celebrities will actually earn a lot of press coverage by way of their vocational exertions next year.

Movies-wise, we expect a few British boys to have a good year. Christian Bale is tipped to be in a re-boot of the Terminator franchise, while James McAvoy is the unlikely star of a new Matrix-style sci-fi called Wanted. Simon Pegg's in the new Star Trek and Jonathan Rhys Meyers also has some Hollywood stuff on the horizon.

Sienna Miller is a good tip for 2008. Looks like LA is starting to warm to her and she could be a fully fledged superstar on both sides of the pond by this time next year.

In the music world, we know Beyonce will have a new album out, as will Oasis and there's a rumour that erstwhile rap superstar Eminem might come out of retirement.

Don't forget there are a few female stars who've gone and got themselves pregnant so they might be on and then off the radar for part of 2008.

Jennifer Lopez, Nicole Richie and Christina Aguilera spring to mind; we can also add Lily Allen, according to recent reports.

And will Victoria Beckham finally crack the US after the increased exposure offered by the Spice Girls reunion? Will Kylie finally find her dream man and settle down?

Maybe Paris Hilton and Pete Doherty will continue with their encouraging recent lifestyle improvements.

Or, whisper it, is there any possibility of a royal wedding in the pipeline? Who knows? Not us, in case you were wondering.

We can say one thing with some confidence though. We think it's going to be Madonna's year. The queen of pop turns 50 in August 2008, a symbolic and significant birthday for the global icon.

She's already cemented her plans for 2008 domination by scheduling a world tour and new album for release. We may as well succumb to her power right now, if we haven't already.
