Bouncing Tamba
Make your own bouncing Tamba with flapping wings.
This should take about 45 mins
You will need:
- Print-out (1 page)
- Strong elastic
- Cardboard tube
- Drinking straw
- Googly eyes
- Yellow fur fabric
- Yellow feather
- Yellow and purple card
- Purple pom poms continued
- Paints
- Sticky tape
- PVA Glue
- Five pence pieces
- Dried pasta
- Safety scissors
Remember to ask a Grown-up for help.
What to do:
Step 1
Take the cardboard tube and cut in half using safety scissors. Lay one half on its side and ask a grown-up to help you push a pencil through the middle to make a hole right through. Paint the tube purple.
Step 2
Take a long piece of elastic, tie a knot in one end and pull through the hole in the tube. The knot should hold the elastic in place so the tube can hang from it. Now ask a grown-up to make two slots, one in each side of the tube.
Step 3
Cut out the wing shapes from the printable. Lay them on some purple card and draw round them. Cut out the wing shapes from the purple card and slot them into the tube. Put some sticky tape on the inside of the tube to hold them in place.
Step 4
Get a grown-up to make a small hole in the top corner of each wing. Fold the wings down and tape a five pence piece to the bottom of each wing to make them heavy. Cut out some yellow fur and stick it over the bottom of each wing.
Step 5
Take more elastic, tie a knot in one end and pull it through the hole in one wing. Join it to the piece of elastic that hangs from the middle. Tie it so the wing hangs loose. Repeat for other wing. Cut off any excess elastic. Now when your tube hangs from the elastic it should lift the wings up.
Step 6
Draw around the end of the tube onto purple card to make a circle. Repeat this and cut out both circles. Dip a circle in glue and stick over one end of the tube. Once dry, fill the inside of the tube with dried pasta to make it heavy. Glue the second circle over the other end of the tube. Let it dry. Tamba's body is finished!
Step 7
Glue the leg and tail shapes to some purple card. Cut them out and stick them onto the body, purple side up.
Glue the nails and scale shapes to yellow card. Cut them out and glue them to the tail and legs.
Step 8
Glue the ear shapes on to purple card. Cut them out and glue them purple side up to the front of your body.
You could add some yellow card to the inside of them.
Step 9
Take a purple pom pom. Stick this in front of the ears to make Tamba's head. Cut another pom pom in half and glue half to the head for the nose. Snip two bits off a straw to make nostrils. Stick them to your nose. Glue on googly eyes and a yellow feather to the top of the head - like Tamba's hair.
Step 10
Now your Tamba is ready! Hold up your Tamba by the elastic string.
Step 11
If you bounce them up and down you can see Tamba's wings flap!
