What to do:

Step 1

Ingredients in mixing bowl

Preheat the oven to 180C/350F/Gas 4. Lightly butter and line the base of an 18cm/7in cake tin with greaseproof paper. Cream the butter and sugar until it's smooth. Gradually beat in the eggs, one at a time.

Step 2

Cake with cream and jam spread over each half.

Sift and fold in the flour, a little at a time. Pour the mixture into the cake tin, level off the mixture with a palette knife and bake for about 90 minutes, or until a skewer inserted into the cake comes out clean. (This time is not included in the 30 miniute make time we advised).

Step 3

A slection of items to use as toppings, food dye, chocolate drops and cherries.

Carefully put the two halves back together and the cake is ready to decorate. To make Mr Tumble's face, firstly mix a drop of red and yellow food colouring to make an orange colour. Add a tiny amount to some white icing and mix until it's a pale skin colour.

Step 4

Finished Mr Tumble Cake

Make a smiley mouth with the candied peel. Make a bow tie shape with the pink marshmallows, and add some strawberry lace or glace cherry pieces for the red spots. Mr Tumble is ready!
