Shoebox theatre

Make your own Jack and the Beanstalk adventures!

30 minutes This should take about 30 mins

You will need:

  • Print-outs (8 pages)
  • Scissors
  • Glue
  • 2 shoeboxes
  • Sticky tape
  • Coloured crepe paper (or you can use normal paper or felt or another fabric)
  • Straws

Remember to ask a Grown-up for help.

What to do:

Step 1

Materials needed

Print out the backgrounds and characters from the panto and gather together some straws along with some crepe paper or other material for the curtains.

Step 2

Shoe boxes stacked

With a grown-up's help, make four holes in each side of the shoe box for your straws to fit through. Place one box on top of the other to create the stage.

Step 3

Stick background picture to the back of the top box.

Cut around your chosen background, and glue it to the back of the top box.

Step 4

Cut out and stick curtains to box

Carefully cut out the red crepe paper to make curtains, then some green paper to make grass at the bottom of the stage. Stick them to the box with glue.

Step 5

Stick your characters to the straws which are pushed through the sides of the top box

Carefully cut out the characters you want to be the actors in your theatre. Push the straws through the holes you made earlier on the sides of the box. Then stick your characters to the ends of the straws with sticky tape. You can move your characters around on stage with the straws and play with your very own theatre set.
