Biscuits
Make your own Numberjacks biscuits.
This should take about 30 mins
You will need:
- A grown-up's help to make the Numberjack biscuits
- 170g plain flour
- 60g cold butter, cut into small pieces
- 85g brown sugar
- 2 tblsp golden syrup
- 2 tblsp milk
- 1 egg yolk
- 1/5 tsp ground ginger
- 1/2 tsp cinnamon
- 1/2 tsp mixed spice
- 170g sieved icing sugar
- Some water
- Food colouring if desired
- Small jelly sweets or chocolate drops
Remember to ask a Grown-up for help.
What to do:
Step 1
First, weigh out all your ingredients and pre-heat the oven to 350F (180C).
Step 2
Mix the flour and spices together in a large bowl. Add the butter and use your fingers to rub the mixture thoroughly. Add the brown sugar.
Step 3
In another bowl, mix the syrup, milk and egg yolk and add it to your mixture. Stir until you have a smooth paste.
Step 4
Roll out the pastry using your hands, and shape into numbers 0-9, or lots of your favourite number. Place on a baking tray and chill for 10 minutes.
Step 5
Bake at a medium heat for 10 or 12 minutes, until biscuits are golden. Leave to cool on a cooling rack.
Step 6
Once the biscuits are cool, add some water to the icing sugar and add food colouring. Ice in your favourite colour and add sweets for eyes.
