15 minutes This should take about 15 mins

You will need:

  • Small plastic bottle
  • Brown modelling clay
  • Bicarbonate of soda
  • White vinegar
  • Plastic container
  • Washing up liquid
  • Red food colouring

Remember to ask a Grown-up for help.

What to do:

Step 1

Take the plastic bottle and use the modelling clay to make a cone shape around it.
Use more modelling clay at the bottom than the top to make the volcano shape.
You can make it bumpy so it looks like rock.

Step 2

Put your volcano onto a tray.
Add a small squirt of washing up liquid (about 2 tablespoons), 1 table spoon of red or orange food colouring and 2 tablespoons of bicarbonate of soda.

Step 3

Finally pour in the vinegar and watch your volcano erupt!
Afterwards, you can wash your volcano and make it erupt again and again.
