The Large Family

Join friendly elephants Mr and Mrs Large and their four children as they experience the ups and downs of everyday family life.

The Large Family

The Large Family is an animation based on Jill Murphy's best-selling picture books about a warm-hearted family of elephants. Each episode follows the everyday (and often not so everyday) happenings of family life with Mum, Dad and their four children: Lester, Laura, Luke and baby Lucy. They go to school, play with friends, make trips to the supermarket, go to work, start new hobbies and long for the summer holidays - just like humans.

Elephants they may be, but in every other way the Large Family are just like us. They have big dreams, huge hopes and enormous piles of laundry! Their problems may seem gigantic at first, but they usually turn out to be tiny. And of course, they occasionally make some massive mistakes...

The educational value of the show

The Large Family helps children to:

  • Understand the importance of family and friends - and helping each other out.
  • Learn more about what happens in the world around them as people go about their everyday lives.
  • Realise that although problems may seem huge, they are usually small and can be easily solved.
