Talkie Time

Have fun joining in these role-play sketches as you interact with Rodd, explore different topics, and even 'pass' things through the screen to him.

Talkie Time

Talkie Time is a series of six-minute sketches for children and grown-ups to play together, or for children to enjoy alone. Playing together with a child makes for a positive shared experience for parents, grandparents, brothers and sisters, and friends and carers. As you read the caption on the top right of the screen, it makes it look like you can talk to Rodd and he's answering back.

Older children who can read can also take over and play it with their younger siblings. It's role playing, as you drop in on your friend Rodd and help him sort out whatever's on his mind today.

As you respond to Rodd in time with the actions written on screen, you mime passing things through to Rodd, throw things through to him, suggest solutions, make friends with his sock puppet, unwrap presents and share many other kind and friendly acts.

Talkie Time is about engrossing children in enjoyable turn-taking, getting them involved in positive exchanges about things that matter to them, fun, feelings, games, gifts and 'let's pretend'.

Rodd

Our friend Rodd Christensen (aka Spencer from Balamory) lives in a bright, friendly flat where we often find him in the living room. Rodd is a multi-talented guy who sings, dances, plays musical instruments and always has an idea for something fun to do whenever we drop in on him. He often needs help with his schemes and ideas. Sometimes he's outside, mending something, doing a favour for a friend or finding out about camping. Rodd's very interested in games and how they work. He also particularly likes cooking.

Occasionally, Rodd gets a visitor to his flat and when Rodd goes out and about he meets other people.

Rodd is a grown-up inventor of games, but he still has the enthusiasm and curiosity of a child. He is almost always energetic and every time you meet him he has something for you to help with or to try out. Occasionally, he can get a little out of sorts, so thank goodness we can always be there to cheer him up or help him when things don't go quite so smoothly! What we learn is that two heads are better than one when it comes to having fun and sorting things out.
