Mama Mirabelle
Larger than life, Mama Mirabelle is gregarious and kind-hearted as she opens up her home - the savannah - to us and her young animal friends. Mama Mirabelle has a nurturing and warm presence. She patiently addresses each and every question posed by the younger characters, knowing when to explain and when to let the young ones figure something out for themselves. She's travelled the world and has personally explored every type of environment in which animals live - and best of all, she's taken movies of all of them!
Bo
Bo is a born comedian. He likes to shout out funny remarks about the characters, give voice to their thoughts, and comment on the ironies. He's high energy, high volume and high maintenance (very much like a typical five-year-old boy) - a real handful for Mama Mirabelle.
He's kind of the older brother to Max, and a slightly younger brother (who thinks he's older) to Karla. Bo makes Karla laugh - but fast as he is, she's still always a step or two ahead of him.
Karla
Karla is more thoughtful and cerebral than Bo, a deep thinker. She's an explorer with an open, inquisitive mind, and always has lots of questions, the most common being 'But WHY?'. She's forever questioning the rules of nature, the universe, and animal behaviour. She's a worrier and Mama Mirabelle sometimes has to calm her down.
She's aware of how charming and pretty she is, and isn't above using her natural charisma to get what she wants. Karla idolises Mama Mirabelle - hangs on her every word, values her opinions and seeks her advice. She aspires to one day have the authority and reputation that Mama has earned.
Other characters
Max is Mama Mirabelle's baby, never more than two feet from her. A little younger than Bo and Karla, Max has all the enthusiasm and wonder of a little child. Like most toddlers, Max likes being with the older characters and tries to become involved in their activities, whether he's welcome or not.
Kip, Flip and Chip
Kip is a bit of a practical joker. If, while eating some tree leaves, Mama finds that something won't let go of her trunk, odds are, it's Kip. Flip is the athletic type. He's always doing gymnastics up in the branches of the 'tree of life'. Chip loves to eat. If he doesn't eat enough, he can be a bit grumpy.
