Alphablocks guide to: Letter teams (digraphs)

Two letters come together to make one sound

Alphablocks guide to: Letter teams (digraphs)

Sometimes letters team up to make a new sound, such as TH, OO and AI. In Alphablocks, two characters (such as E and R) do this by fuse to make a letter team: ER. Teachers call them digraphs (two letters that make one sound).
There are lots of digraphs. In this stage, children learn the starter set:
ch, sh, th, ng, ai, ee, oa, oo, ar, or, ur, ow, oi
There are trigraphs too (three letters that make one sound): igh, ear, air, ure.
To have fun with letter teams, your child can play the Alphablocks episodes online [link to games site]: choose the yellow episodes.
When your child is confident at reading words with letter teams, they are ready for letter blends [link to Letter blends video].
