This activity is great for extending your child's knowledge and understanding of the world around them, as they learn about different types of food and where they come from. It's also a good way of developing their fine motor skills as they prepare ingredients and handle utensils. And it teaches them an important life skill - how to prepare tasty, nutritious meals (and the occasional yummy treat!).
How to extend the fun
Ask your child what colour tomatoes are. Explain that they are usually red although they can be other colours too, such as yellow and orange. Also explain that they come in different shapes and sizes - beefsteak tomatoes are big while cherry tomatoes are small. They can be eaten raw (eg in a salad), they can be cooked, and they can be used in sauces (pasta sauces and tomato ketchup).
