This activity is great for extending your child's knowledge and understanding of the world around them, as they learn about different types of food and where they come from. It's also a good way of developing their fine motor skills as they prepare ingredients and handle utensils. And it teaches them an important life skill - how to prepare tasty, nutritious meals (and the occasional yummy treat!).
How to extend the fun
Talk about fish and how there are different varieties we can eat - eg, salmon, tuna, cod. Explain that fish is a good source of 'protein' - which is needed by our bodies to give us energy and to help us grow. Other types of food which are high in protein are meat, eggs, nuts and seeds, and 'pulses' (eg lentils and chickpeas).
