This activity is great for extending your child's knowledge and understanding of the world around them, as they learn about different types of food and where they come from. It's also a good way of developing their fine motor skills as they prepare ingredients and handle utensils. And it teaches them an important life skill - how to prepare tasty, nutritious meals (and the occasional yummy treat!).
How to extend the fun
Ask if your child knows what rhubarb looks like. Explain that rhubarb is a plant with long pinky-red stalks and big green leaves. The part we eat is the pinky-red stalk. When you prepare rhubarb, you cut a few stalks into small chunks, sprinkle them with sugar and then cook them to make them soft and tasty. Yum!
