Nina and telescope

Introduction

Creating this telescope will help to develop your child's knowledge and understanding of the world around them, and how things work, eg how binoculars make far-away things look closer. The activity will also help to improve their hand-eye coordination and fine motor skills as they assemble the telescope by roll the card into two tubes and fixing the magnifying glasses in place. The make is a bit fiddly in places, so you will need to be on hand to help your child.

How to extend the magic

Once you've finished the telescope activity you could take out one of the magnifying glasses and let your child go off and find something to examine up close. It could be a bug from outside, a flower, a leaf or just some print in a book. What happens when they zoom in on their object? What can they see?
