This activity is great for extending your child's knowledge and understanding of the world around them, as they learn about different types of food and where they come from. It's also a good way of developing their fine motor skills as they prepare ingredients and handle utensils. And it teaches them an important life skill - how to prepare tasty, nutritious meals (and the occasional yummy treat!).
How to extend the fun
Talk about how chocolate can be used in cooking (eg for puddings and cakes - like this Kerwhizz Cake), for drinks (hot chocolate) and for treats (eg chocolate bars and Easter eggs). Chocolate is made from the seed of the cacao tree. The seeds are called 'cacao beans' and are roasted to produce a substance which can then be turned into chocolate.
