Constructing this make is a great way of helping your child to develop their hand-eye coordination and fine motor skills as they cut, paint and stick a range of materials to create a bird and a funky nest for it to sit in. Your child can have fun experimenting with different colours and textures along the way. The make is a bit complicated in parts so you'll need to be on hand in case your child needs some help.
How to extend the magic
Talk to your child about how birds build nests in the springtime, lay eggs in them and hatch out their chicks. Then you could pretend to be tweeting birds together, busy finding worms and caterpillars to feed your chicks. Flap your arms up and down and pretend to flutter around the room.
