This picture story about a race at sea will help to develop your child’s language and literacy skills, especially their listening skills and their knowledge of the sounds different letters and phonemes make. Watching it together is a great way of encouraging your child to enjoy books and the whole process of storytelling. The activity is also a fun, interactive way for your child to find out more about the world around them.
How to extend the magic
Your child could draw a picture of a scene out at sea or under the waves. They might want to include a submarine (as this story did). Your child could colour in their picture using paints, felt-tips or crayons – and they could use some other materials if they like (eg foil, tissue paper, felt, glitter). When thye’ve finished their picture, you could display their nautical scene in the kitchen or up on their bedroom wall.
