This Bug Trail game can be played either by using a webcam or a mouse. To play it as a webcam game, your child will need to find a bright red, green or blue object to use as a 'magic wand' which they use to wave in front of the camera and watch the bug follow. (If their wand isn't working, click on 'Help' in the game.) If you don't have a webcam, simply drag the mouse around to make a bug trail. As well as helping your child with their computer skills (as they control the mouse or interact with the webcam), it will also develop their knowledge and understanding of the natural world.
How to extend the fun
Ask your child what they know about bugs such as bees, flies and butterflies? Can they name any other bugs or 'minibeasts' (eg, spiders, ladybirds, ants)? Click through to the Green Balloon Club's 'Watch & Listen' section and click on 'Spots' (video clips). There are some good bugs to learn about in there.
How to make a magic moment
Pretend to be a bee or a butterfly and buzz or flutter your way around the room you are in. You have to join in too - don't be shy!
