CBeebies bug

Information and feedback

From September 16th 2008, the CBeebies channel is available to view via the CBeebies website (click on the 'Watch Live' link on the right hand side of this page). Broadcasting television content on the web increases the accessibility of the content and allows you to choose how you access BBC services.

This is a temporary arrangement, scheduled to last 12 months. When you watch BBC television content via your television set you are required to own a TV licence, the same is applicable when you watch BBC television content via your computer.

We'd like to know what you think about this idea, specifically what you think about your children watching CBeebies TV on the web. Did your family enjoy the experience? Do you think you'll watch TV in this way again? Would you be happy for us to broadcast the TV content from the CBeebies 'homepage', or would you prefer that it stays where it is on the 'Watch and Listen' page?

We understand that you may have some questions, hopefully these answers may help:

  • Q: Are the programmes the same on the web as they are on the TV?
  • A: Not all TV shows will be available to watch via your computer, but those that are will be broadcast at the same time, giving you the choice over how you want to watch.
  • Q: Why can't I view all CBeebies channel programmes via the website?
  • A: When you are watching the CBeebies channel on the website you may find that the service is occasionally interrupted. This is because rights restrictions mean that some programmes are not available to be viewed via the website.
  • Q: Why does the screen sometimes show the following message "Sorry we can't show you this particular programme for legal reasons. However this programme is available on your TV"?
  • A: This message is displayed when CBeebies does not have permission from the makers of a programme to be able to show it via the internet. These restrictions do not apply to the CBeebies Channel on TV where you can watch all programmes as scheduled.
  • Q: Can I watch from outside the UK?
  • A: No. This service is restricted so that it cannot be viewed from outside the UK.
  • Q: Do I need a TV licence if I'm watching TV on the web?
  • A: Yes. If you watch TV online as it's being broadcast, you still need a TV Licence. For information on applying for a television licence, please use the link to the right of this page.

We'd really value your feedback; we'd also like to hear of any ideas you have for improvement of this service, or indeed of any concerns you may have.

Please get in touch with us via the CBeebies Grown-ups message board, the link is to the right of this page.
