  • Learning how to interact and get along with others takes a lifetime but the early years are critical in terms of social development.
  • Socialising, being accepted and co-operating is a gradual process and an important one.
  • This whole process starts as soon as a baby is born; the way in which adults respond to their needs at this early age can set the scene for future healthy emotional and social development.
  • The drive to make friends, share experiences, laugh, joke and cry together is one of the most fundamental of human needs.
  • A child's confidence in their own abilities can be secured through praise and appreciation of their new abilities by the adults who care for them.
